Fast Action, Less Depth for RPG Fans
Medabots AX: Rokusho Version on the Nintendo GBA has transformed the familiar RPG formula of the Medabots series into a fast-paced 2D fighting game. Instead of the strategic, turn-based battles we’re used to, this game focuses on action-packed one-on-one fights. Here, you collect Medaparts and customise your Medabot to become stronger. Personally, I find the gameplay smooth and responsive, with a wide selection of moves and attacks that provide variety and depth.
The visual style is colourful and true to the series, which evoked a nostalgic feeling for me. However, the environments sometimes feel a bit simplistic, which makes the experience slightly less impressive. The challenge mainly lies in strategically choosing parts and mastering the controls. However, the repetitive structure of the battles can become a bit monotonous over time.
As a fan of the franchise, you can certainly enjoy the fast action and the collection of Medaparts. But if you’re looking for a deeper RPG experience, like in the classic Medabots games, you might find yourself a bit disappointed. The game does offer fun moments, but sometimes lacks the complexity that I personally appreciate in a good RPG.
