A journey through the Northern Kremisphere, but on the Game Boy!
This unique game for the Game Boy takes you on a journey through the Northern Kremisphere. It's a remix of the SNES game Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and continues the story from that game.

Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong participate in a race to be the first to find the secret Lost World. However, some villains have also come up with the same idea - the Kremlings, led by the mad scientist K.Roolenstein and his diabolical creation, a robot named KAOS. Dixie and Kiddy will have to travel through this mysterious world by running, jumping, climbing, and swimming to defeat the reptilian villains and KAOS and be the first to find the Lost World!

Like Donkey Kong Land 3 and DK Land 2, this third game features highly detailed sprites for the various characters, and for those who have played the SNES game Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, there are plenty of new surprises in store with levels in a completely new order and platform puzzles rearranged differently. This version of the game also offers a new Memory mini-game, replacing the crystal puzzles from the SNES version. Due to the Game Boy having less memory space than the Super Nintendo, some background music has been reused in multiple types of levels, such as the waterfall tune now also heard in the snow levels. This adds to the surprise you'll experience if you've played the SNES version before.

However, the best way to play this game is the enhanced version on the Game Boy Color, an exclusive Japanese variant released in 2000. It features a lot more color and the text is easier to read.

Strong Platform Action with a Donkey Kong Vibe on the Game Boy
With Donkey Kong Land 3, the renowned developer RareWare attempted once again to bring a Donkey Kong experience with the grandeur of the Donkey Kong Country series to a portable platform. This time you play as Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong on their adventure through challenging levels filled with enemies and platforming challenges. The game is similar to the SNES game Donkey Kong Country 3, but adapted for the limitations of the Game Boy.

The graphics are quite detailed for the Game Boy and recreate the pre-rendered style of the series. Despite the monochrome screen, the worlds feel vibrant. The music is also good, as we’ve come to expect from Donkey Kong games!

In terms of gameplay, Donkey Kong Land 3 offers strong platform action with familiar gameplay mechanics, such as collecting bonus items and riding on animal friends. These levels remain the most enjoyable! Although the controls can sometimes feel a bit stiff, it remains a challenging and above all fun experience.

One downside is that the Game Boy version is clearly more limited compared to the SNES version. The levels are less elaborate and the visual limitations can sometimes lead to confusion about the environment or enemies. Still, it’s a solid platformer that will particularly appeal to fans of the Donkey Kong Country series.

All in all, Donkey Kong Land 3 is a strong title for the Game Boy that is worth playing. Especially if you’ve played the first two games as well!
