Tactical challenges on the GameBoy Advance
In this delightfully tactical game, you have a little army at your disposal. When it's your turn, you can move your troops and launch attacks. When it's not your turn, you nervously await what will happen, hoping you've planned everything carefully and haven't overlooked anything.

The variety in Advance Wars lies in the many variations. In the dark, airplanes, boats, multiple armies at once, and the different maps with their own terrains. It's also very enjoyable that you can play it together, but beware: these matches are going to take a long time!! =)

Very enjoyable, but a somewhat weak storyline
I have to say, Advance Wars is a very enjoyable game. The game revolves around tactics and is a true strategy game.

The game is turn-based and resembles chess a bit but with a twist. With World War II-like weapons such as infantry, tanks, artillery, helicopters, and warplanes, you must defeat your enemies. In addition to these, there are also boats, and sometimes you engage in battles at sea.

The game is played on a map that is usually fully visible. But sometimes it's not, and then you have to be more careful and use scouting units (jeeps) to see better, because then your enemies (and yourself) can hide better, for example in trees. This feature is not often seen in strategy games and adds some variety, making the game more challenging at times.

Furthermore, there is a functioning story mode. Personally, I'm not crazy about it as I find it a bit childish, but it has its charm. You'll have to play the story mode multiple times to unlock everything since there are multiple endings and possibilities.

I personally find the following versions more enjoyable (Advance Wars 2 (gba) and Advance Wars 3 (ds)) as they offer more depth and a clearer storyline progression. But this is after all the first one, and the lack of clarity also has to do with the storyline.

For anyone who enjoys strategy games and doesn't mind having a not-so-serious story, this is a real recommendation. Actually, the only true army-strategy game on the gba.

4 tips: 2 Easter Eggs and Glitches - 1 Personal tip - 1 Secret

Personal tip:
How do you make the final mission against Sturm much easier?
Philip

To make the final mission against Sturm much easier, you should let him capture the airport north of the "Orange Star" base. Just make sure you have anti-aircraft missiles near the airport panel. Sturm will spend 22,000 per turn to create a bomber plane, but you can easily take them out of the sky before they can cause any damage. Now that Sturm is spending 22,000 per day on a broken bomber plane, the rest of his army will be much weaker and easier to defeat, regardless of which allies you have during this battle.

Easter Eggs and Glitches:

Rivals mission: Play with Sami during the following missions of Advance Wars: "Captain Drake", "Naval Clash", "Wings of Victory", and "Battle Mystery".

Sonja's secret battles: Complete "Kanbei Arrives!" in 8 turns or fewer, "Mighty Kanbei!" in 10 turns or fewer, and "Kanbei's Error" in 12 turns or fewer.

Easter Eggs and Glitches:
How can I use the Field Training glitch to modify all cards?
Philip
3144
With this glitch, you can modify Campaign and War Room cards! The changes you make are only saved during the battle and fortunately not permanently on your cartridge.

- Go to "Field Training" and play the "Naval Forces" mission.
- Lose by getting destroyed by Olaf (your "T-Copter" or "Lander").
- Go to "Design Maps", place your "Orange Star" unit and destroy it.
- Your screen is now glitched. Go to a saved campaign or "War Room" of Advance Wars and make adjustments. Remember to save your changes during gameplay itself, not using the "Design Maps" save option.
- To undo everything, simply restart your GBA.
